The major project to reopen the pass between Sanibel and Captiva at Blind Pass finally has a firm start date of November 6th, 2008. This is a big multi-stage project that involves not only opening the pass, but dredging both the bay and Gulf sides to prevent it silting up and then for at least 3 years doing ongoing maintenance to keep the area free from sandy build up.

For a minimum of 6 weeks from the start date - which will include Thanksgiving - the parking areas on BOTH the Sanibel and Captiva sides of the bridge will be closed and used to stage the initial work. This means the ONLY public beach parking on Captiva will be at the very end of Captiva Drive past the entrance to South Seas and adjacent to the SSR Beach Villas. This is NOT a big lot, so for those you planning to spend Thanksgiving on the islands, be prepared. The bridge will be open. The work will go 24/7 so there will be substantial noise in the Santiva area and it will likely be smelly at times.

After the first 6 week work will continue on both side of the pass, including along Roosevelt Channel. Keep in mind the 24/7 noise. Also lots of trucks along San-Cap Rd to Clam Bayou where much of the excavated sand will go.

Work is scheduled to end around May 2009. Please keep in mind things change and this project is nearly 3 months late starting already, so stay tuned.

Locals, property owners, any comments?

Lee County has begun the staging for the re-opening of Blind Pass. The parking area and restroom at Turner's beach, the Captiva side of Blind Pass and the southern most public beach access point on Captiva, and the Sanibel parking area on the south side of the bridge, Sanibel's northern most access point, will be CLOSED FOR 6 MONTHS STARTING NOV 1st 2008!

This will shut the most popular access point on Captiva for weekend local and off island visitors. Even though both lots are fairly small, the Sanibel side had many spots reserved for city resident permit holders. This will strain all parking near the bridge as people attempt to use business parking for beach access. It will also mean that many people will find NO BEACH ACCESS PARKING ON CAPTIVA as only 1 small, and usually full lot, at the northern end of Captiva Drive beyond the village will be available.

Any one renting along the 'Golden Mile' and staying bayside should ask about beach access. Many have deeded right of ways, other homes HAVE NO DEEDED BEACH ACCESS. Captiva is not easy for those visiting for the day at the best of times. This will be a significant problem in high season for some people, but especially for weekenders and day trippers. Expect frustrated drivers.

If you are renting any of the homes near Blind Pass from owners or agencies - be sure to ASK about beach access as some use Turner's beach as their access point. This will include the cottages Little Palm, Bamboo Breeze, Lazy Hideaway or most of the Castaways Resort on the Sanibel side, plus Captiva side - Coquina, Saba Winds, Surfcomber, Holly House, Providence, and Nirvana. They will also have noise to some level thanks to the 24/7 work, as well as a certain amount of smell as the sands are dredged.

Here is an article in the News Press about transplanting the seagrass - they are protected species - into Wulfert channel.

I don't know how long the link will be active, but give it a read.

The parking area on the Sanibel side of Blind Pass Bridge is open most days. The contractor will need it on an intermittent basis.

The Captiva side parking, Turner's Beach, remains closed and dedicated for the use of the contractors only at this time and for some months to come.

The November update has reached the Lee County website and it includes excellent photos and an aerial photo of exactly where the dredging will be along the channels and Gulf. There are also some really good photos of the pipes that have been laid at Blind Pass on the Sanibel side and the clearing of vegetation on the sandbars. The seagrass replanting, needed to meet environmental rules, is progressing well, but has pushed the dredging start date back. While the finish date is now May 30, 2009, I think it will likely finish sooner. A number of houses along the channel are affected, so ask before you rent!

Here's the latest update with photos. Take a look at the rather daunting corrugate steel wall that's been erected near the work area.

This is the latest update on the project which seems to be on time to the late May finish date. Take a look at the size of the cranes on the Captiva side of the beach and also where the dredge is relative to Blind Pass Bridge.

This is the most recent update with AWESOME aerial photos of the containment area on the beachside of the bridge that will be dredged. It will look a lot more like it did some years back. The completion date is on track for early July as more sand will be removed.

Take a look

A Recent Driver - The Golfer's Closest friend

We listen to it almost every single end of the week even though watching golf on television...precisely what is wrong, if anything, with professional golfers using over-sized drivers using tech of which seemingly continues about increasing driving distance? ping g15 fairway wood This offers to be a new single of the majority fiercely debated topics in golf today, and the topic which not just offers an individual an influence in pro golfers, however new comers too.
Driver is one of the most important clubs in golfers’ bag; it is the golfer’s best friend. Ishiner
For a long time I often tried the set of woods, including a driver, using any steel brain. The feeling which leads from hitting the "perfectly" struck ball off the tee ended up being fantastic, r9 irons that would not perhaps seem like I was hitting anything! On the other hand, any shot that had been also a bit off middle of the clubface may result in quite a very poor shot.

Take the clubs

Now take the club with your strong hand and take your normal grip. Now start your backswing with golf clubs for sale. Don't sway back, you should turn your hips to a 45 degree angle, which means your back side should also turn 45 degrees ishiner.
