We had a great holiday at the South Seas Beach Villas, which is situated on the beach. We rented the condo directly from the owner, as we come to Captiva for the beach and sun and do not require all the extra amenities you get when you rent through the resort.
When you drive through the gates of South Seas the unit is just past a set of tennis courts. We really liked the location of this unit at the South Seas Resort as it offers the best of both worlds. The location of the villa is great for walking the beach and strolling the grounds but also is an easy walk to the village of Captiva i.e. Andy Rossi Lane restaurants and shops (including a grocery store with good selection of food, wine and beer all reasonably priced). The village is only a short walk (10 minutes) down the beach or down the road. A longer beach walk takes you to the busy end of South Seas where a small nature center, general buildings, a couple of pools and a dock can be found. We liked the fact that the beach villa is along a beautiful quiet stretch of beach rather than at the busier end of the resort.
The condo boasts newly renovated rooms, comfortable beds, modern kitchen appliances and furniture. 4 flat screen TVs in bedrooms. Very quiet unit, absolutely no noise except the waves from the ocean. Beautiful view of the Gulf where the sunset can be seen from the screened sitting area. A nice size heated pool is just down a boardwalk from the condo. Laundry facilities are in lower level of the building and priced at 1.25 for large capacity machines.
We enjoyed a relaxing holiday where South Seas staff were friendly and approachable (they were on the beach and set us up with umbrellas, lounge chairs and towels).
We saw fishing right off the beach, so bringing fishing gear and lures is a good idea. See amazing wildlife: lizards, many sea birds including osprey, herons and pelicans.
Manatee and dolphins are commonly sighted as well. Bring containers for shells in order to bring your treasures home. Extraordinary shelling!

Ann - Did you happen to see if the new stairs [tiling job] and porches were done with construction on all the buildings? The most recent photos I saw showed it still ongoing.
I was just out at South Seas yesterday and took a look at the beach villas. Whatever construction had been going on is definatley done now- all looked good.
Unfortunatley I did not get a chance to swing up to the north end of the resort to check out the new kiddie pool. I will be out there later in the week and will be able see it then.
